Showerthought: Why do we tip for takeout now?

I ordered pizza for pickup and was asked to tip on the app. The person just handed me the box, so what am I tipping for? Is this the new normal everywhere?

Yeah that "just handed me the box" part is what gets me... but someone still had to put your whole order together, make sure all the sauces and stuff are in there, and pack it up. It's not like they're just standing there waiting for you to show up. The tipping prompt is kinda everywhere now, which is annoying, but I usually throw in a dollar or two for the work that happened before I got there.
