Serious question, has a client ever mistaken you for their therapist?

This lady spent the whole appointment telling me about her divorce while I just wanted to focus on her highlights. I nodded along and gave her a great blowout, though.

Hair salons turn into confession booths without the religion! That mirror in front of the chair makes people face their own image, and sometimes their problems spill out. I've seen clients start crying over a trim because they're finally sitting still long enough to feel their feelings. Your quiet listening probably helped her more than any fancy therapy method. We should get paid extra for being part-time counselors!

I get where you're coming from, but it's not our job to be therapists. We need to keep things professional.
