My pastel balayage experiment turned the hair to mush

I tried a new blending technique with light pastel dyes. Applied the color too heavily in one section. The hair got over-processed and started breaking. Now I'm doing a major cut to fix it. Go easy with lightener, or you'll ruin the hair.

Your "hair to mush" result is why I always warn friends about pastel dyes. I read a blog where a pro said they act like bleach on over-lightened hair. Big cuts are brutal but better than dealing with broken ends.

Pastel dyes require high volume developer, which re-bleaches hair. (My own strands snapped from that over-processing.)
