Spent $40 on a fancy avocado tool set a few years back, and it's still the dumbest kitchen buy I've ever made.

That "fancy avocado tool set" is a perfect example. We keep buying these single-use gadgets that promise to make one tiny task easier. But a knife does the same job and you already own it. It feels like we're solving problems that don't really exist, just because the product looks clever on the shelf.

Wait, people actually buy a tool just for avocados? @robin_lee that's wild. I saw a garlic peeler tube once, you just roll a clove inside it. My regular knife smacks the clove and the skin comes right off. My kitchen drawer is full of this stuff, a strawberry huller and an egg slicer. It's like we're scared of using basic tools anymore.

Honestly I used to love those gadgets too until @phoenixwalker made me realize my knife can do almost all of it.
