Hit 100 failed attempts at the 'perfect' poached egg

The whites kept feathering out no matter what vinegar trick I used. Has anyone actually made this work without a sous vide machine?

Fresh eggs make a huge difference (the whites are tighter). Also, try swirling the water into a vortex before you drop the egg in.

Wait, the vortex trick... does that actually keep the whites from feathering out? I've never tried that part.
