Tried a rosehip oil serum on my client's acne scars and got way better results than I expected

I had this client from Austin, Melissa, who came in for a facial last month with some pretty deep acne scarring. Normally I stick to my trusty salicylic acid peels, but I figured why not try the rosehip oil I got from a local shop for $16.99. Her skin looked smoother after just two sessions, way less red than with the chemical stuff. Has anyone else found rosehip works better on certain skin types than actives?

Have you ever had a product totally flip what you thought you knew? I used to swear by actives for everything until a stubborn scar on my arm made me try rosehip oil on a whim and it faded way faster than my usual acids. It's humbling when something that cheap and simple works better than the stuff you've been pushing for years.

My $16 rosehip bottle from Target has honestly humbled me more times than my students do, and that's saying something... I used to think you had to spend big money for results, but then I put this cheap oil on a client's scars and she came back looking like she'd been airbrushed. It's embarrassing when a random impulse buy works better than your whole professional kit. Makes me wonder if I should just start slathering cooking oil on everyone and call it a day. Almost did that once with coconut oil in a pinch but then remembered that's how you get breakouts, not results.

Rosehip oil is pretty gentle on sensitive skin compared to actives, which helps calm down redness faster. I've found it works best on clients who react badly to acids or retinol, especially if their skin barrier is still healing. A $16 bottle can go a long way for those deeper scars without the irritation.
