PSA: Vitamin C serums expire way faster than I thought
Found out last week that most L-ascorbic acid serums go bad after just 3 months once opened. I was using a 6 month old bottle from a spa in Seattle and wondered why my skin was doing nothing. Anyone else check their bottle dates after hearing this?

I actually checked the batch code on my bottle from Blue Mercury a few months ago and it was already 8 months old when I bought it... turns out the store was selling old stock. The oxidation makes the serum turn yellow or brown, and once it does that, the vitamin C is basically useless. You're right about the 3 month window for L-ascorbic acid, but some forms like tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate last way longer if you switch to that. Just keep your bottle in the fridge and it might stretch to 4 or 5 months max though.

@lily_singh2 that explains why my bathroom cabinet stash went bad before I even opened it lol.
