PSA: Heard a client at the coffee shop say she uses a DIY chemical peel from a video

I was grabbing a coffee before my first appointment and the woman in line was telling her friend about a 'kitchen peel' she saw online. She said it used lemon juice and aspirin. I didn't say anything, but it made me think about how often this must happen. Has anyone else overheard clients talking about risky home treatments they found online?

Ugh, that reminds me of my cousin who tried a baking soda scrub for blackheads. Her face was red for a week. People will try anything.

And the thing is, the people making those videos usually have no medical or skincare background either. They're just someone with a phone and enough confidence to pretend they know what they're talking about. It's wild how a two minute clip can undo years of dermatologists telling people to leave harsh acids to the pros. The aspirin thing especially gets me because it's not even meant for topical use, it's a blood thinner. So you're basically asking for chemical burns AND potential systemic issues if you have enough broken skin. I swear half these trends just exist because "natural" sounds safer even when it's actually way more dangerous.

Lemon juice and aspirin? That's asking for a chemical burn, not a glow. The acid in lemon juice is way too strong and unpredictable for skin, it strips everything. People don't realize how badly that can mess up your skin barrier. It's scary how a quick video can make something so dangerous seem easy.
