Spent $180 on a portable Starlink setup and it saved my bacon in rural Portugal
I was in the Algarve last month bouncing between cafes trying to get work done and losing money on lattes. Finally bit the bullet on a used Starlink dish and a battery pack after reading about it on here. Set it up near a tiny village called Aljezur where my phone had zero signal and it pulled 80mbps easy. The dish was $150 and the battery was another $30 off Facebook Marketplace. For me it was worth it because I could park my van anywhere and still hit my deadlines. Has anyone else gone this route or are you still hunting for WiFi spots?

Started setting mine up near a tiny beach town in Portugal too, and it hit me how much we rely on just finding a spot with good wifi. It got me thinking about how everything in life is like that now, you know? We're always hunting for the right signal, the right connection, the right moment. Like with friendships or jobs, we're always bouncing around looking for a solid link. Having your own setup just cuts through all that chaos and lets you actually get stuff done without begging for a barista's permission.

My first Starlink setup ended up tangled in a tree branch for 20 minutes while I stood there looking like a total clown trying to untangle it with a stick. Got it working though and pulled 65mbps from a random field in the middle of nowhere in Scotland. Battery pack died after 4 hours of heavy use but honestly still beats hunting for a cafe that doesnt look at you weird for staying too long.

Used to think portable internet was overkill but yeah, this totally changed my mind.
