Overheard a guy at a Bali co-working space say he files taxes in three different countries
He bragged about paying zero taxes anywhere and I got a pit in my stomach thinking about how many digital nomads are one audit away from losing everything.

people see someone getting away with something on social media" yeah my cousin tried that and now lives in his mom's basement.

Hear this kind of stuff all the time now, and it's like everyone forgot the IRS has international agreements. Seen three people in my own circle get hit with huge fines and penalties because they thought being a nomad meant money rules just disappear. It's the same pattern I notice in everyday life now - people see someone getting away with something on social media and assume the rules don't apply to them. Then reality hits when the bank account gets frozen or the tax lien shows up. Nobody posts that part of the story though, just the zero tax brag.
