My whole work setup died in a Lisbon cafe last Tuesday

I was finishing a client report when my laptop charger just stopped working. No warning, no spark, just dead. The cafe outlet was fine, my power bank was fine, but the charger itself was a brick. My battery was at 12%. I had to scramble, asking the barista if they had any spare chargers (they didn't) and finally found a small electronics shop three blocks away that sold a universal adapter for 35 euros. It got me through the day, but it was a solid hour of pure stress. I've learned to always carry a backup charger now, but I'm wondering if a universal travel adapter is actually reliable long term. Has anyone found a specific brand or model that's held up for more than a year on the road?

Universal ones are hit or miss. My Anker travel adapter has been solid for two years now.

My Ceptics plug snapped off in London.

My old universal adapter from a random airport kiosk lasted exactly eight months before it got loose and stopped making a good connection. I switched to a Ceptics brand model about a year and a half ago, and it's been through Europe and Asia with no issues. The build feels a lot sturdier than the cheap ones, and the plugs lock in place so they don't wobble. That peace of mind is worth the extra few bucks for sure.
