My main laptop charger fried itself in a Lisbon cafe last month

It was a cheap universal one I bought in a hurry after my original died. The thing just made a pop sound and smoked a little, right as I was about to join a video call. I had to run to a big electronics store and pay 70 euros for a proper replacement on the spot. Anyone have a go-to brand for chargers that can handle different voltages without dying?

Honestly, that sounds more like bad luck than a big voltage issue. Those universal chargers are hit or miss, you just got a total miss. Paying 70 on the spot hurts, but at least you got a call done. I've had cheap ones last for years and name brand ones die fast.

My old car charger died last winter and left me stuck at a gas station. I bought a cheap one from the counter that lasted maybe two weeks. What finally worked was getting a charger from the auto parts store with a solid warranty. It cost a bit more up front, but they replaced it for free when the first one failed. I don't trust the gas station electronics anymore. Have you had better luck with a specific brand?

@the_joseph did that warranty one have a brand name worth remembering?
