Can we talk about the worst week I ever had in Bali
Honestly, everyone talks about how perfect the digital nomad life is, but my first week in Canggu was a total nightmare. The villa I booked for $800 a month had its power cut off for three days straight because the owner didn't pay the bill. My mobile hotspot ran out of data trying to join client calls from a cafe, and I missed a deadline. Ngl, it really showed me that the Instagram version of this life is a complete lie. Has anyone else had a setup fail that badly right after moving somewhere new?

Oh wow, that's brutal! I had a similar shock with the hidden costs. My "cheap" apartment in Mexico came with a water pump that screamed like a banshee 24/7, and replacing it was my problem. It ate my whole freelance budget for the month and I had to sleep with noise-canceling headphones on. The quiet costs they never post about are the real trap!

Tell me about it! My last place had a fridge from like 1985 that sounded like a jet engine kicking on every twenty minutes. The landlord just shrugged and said it still worked, so I ended up paying for a new one myself just to get some sleep (and save on the crazy electric bill, which was another fun surprise). You're totally right, the quiet costs are what really get you.

Used to think rent was just the number on the listing. Figured utilities were the only extra thing. Reading these stories changes my view. That hidden stuff, the broken appliances and weird noises, it's like a second rent. Landlords should fix that, not us. Makes a cheap place feel expensive real fast.
