Bali for 5 weeks broke my 'work from anywhere' fantasy
I just got back from Ubud and I'm torn on this whole digital nomad thing. On paper it was perfect: cheap guesthouse, solid WiFi at this one cafe, and I got my client work done between 9am and 2pm most days. But the reality was different. The noise never stops, the scooters honk at 6am, and I ended up eating at the same three warungs because I was too wiped to explore after staring at a screen. I started wondering if I'm actually just a guy who likes the idea of travel more than the constant moving. Some nomads I met there loved it, said Ubud was their base for 2 years. Others were bouncing islands every 10 days and looked exhausted. Is the dream really about place, or is it about having a routine that works no matter where you plug in? Has anyone else hit a spot that sounded great but made them question the whole lifestyle? Or am I just doing it wrong with my 5 week trial?

Five weeks is barely enough time to get your laundry routine sorted, let alone judge a whole lifestyle. The noise and the same warungs are just part of the deal, and honestly, the nomads bouncing islands every 10 days are the ones who actually get it. You wanted a vacation with a paycheck, not a life that works everywhere, and that's the real thing to question.
