Pro tip: my CTR dropped 40% after I "optimized" my email subject lines
Last month I ran an A/B test on a 12,000 subscriber list for a client in Portland, swapping my casual subject lines for ones with numbers and power words like "secret" and "instant." Open rates went up 18%, but clicks fell off a cliff, and I think people felt baited once they saw the actual content. Has anyone else seen this split between open rate and CTR when you make subject lines more clickbaity, or is there a way to keep both metrics healthy without sounding like a spam bot?
