That time I misread every writing prompt for 6 months

Honestly I kept writing these elaborate fantasy scenes for prompts that clearly wanted slice-of-life stories. What tipped me off was a comment saying 'this is beautifully written but completely misses the assignment' with 47 upvotes. I went back and read the prompt again and realized I had been ignoring the key detail every single time. Now I read each prompt three times before typing a word. Has anyone else misread a prompt so badly it changed their whole approach?

Dude that's brutal but honestly hilarious lmao. I once spent an hour writing a super serious response to a prompt that was clearly a joke, turns out the OP was just messing around and the whole thread was satire. The worst part is someone replied to me like "bro read the room" and I had to delete my whole comment out of pure shame lol. Now i double check the tone before i type anything, feels like you gotta be a detective sometimes.

Nah, I think sometimes overthinking ruins the spontaneity that makes writing fun.
