One line from a random guy at the library made me rewrite my whole story
I was stuck on a fantasy novel draft at the downtown public library like 3 months ago. This older guy sat down near me and asked what I was working on. I told him about my worldbuilding and he just said 'your characters sound like they're waiting for the plot to happen to them'. That hit me hard because he was right. I went home and cut 15 pages of setup and started the story right when the main character makes a bad choice. Has anyone else gotten critique from a complete stranger that actually changed how you write?

Read somewhere that strangers can see your story's blind spots like no one else.

Gotta disagree a little. Strangers can be brutally honest but they don't know your voice or what you're trying to do. That old guy could've just been grumpy about fantasy novels.
