My writing group's prompts were 1 page in January, now they're 4 paragraphs and I can't keep up
I go to a small writing group at a coffee shop in Denver every other Tuesday, 6 of us, and back in January the prompts were simple stuff like 'write about a door' and we'd get 20 minutes. Around March, our leader started printing these sheets with a whole setup, a character, a conflict, and 3 rules about what you can't mention, and now the prompts run 4 paragraphs long. I used to knock out a full draft in the time slot and now I barely get a paragraph before the timer goes off. I get that more detail gives you more to work with, but it kills the fun of just running with a weird idea. Does anyone else's group do this, and how do you handle prompts that are basically a whole assignment?
