My prompt for a 12 year old vampire story turned into a 9 page werewolf saga and I do not know where I went wrong
So back in January I joined a local prompt swap at the library in Tacoma and got handed the line "the new kid never eats lunch." Simple, right? I sat down to write maybe 3 pages about a quiet kid at a lunch table. Instead I somehow built a whole werewolf pack with a blood feud going back 200 years. By page 9 I had a moon ritual and a dead gym teacher and I completely lost the vampire angle from the first paragraph. I tried cutting it back down last night and it is worse now, the wolf stuff keeps pulling me away from the original idea. Has anyone here had a prompt run away on them like this, and do you fight it or just let the story go where it wants?
