Just realized the "write drunk edit sober" tip is garbage and a 20 minute timer in my truck before work is what actually gets my drafts done
I used to spend 3 hours a night staring at a blank doc chasing some perfect flow state, but now I knock out 500 words at 6am in the Wendy's parking lot on Airport Blvd with a cold coffee and my phone on airplane mode, and honestly those messy pages turn into better stories than anything I wrote at a desk at midnight, so what's the weirdest spot or setup that actually gets words out of you?
Laughed at the "write drunk edit sober" thing because my own version of that was just writing tired and editing more tired. My weirdest spot is the laundry room floor at like 11pm with the dryer running, because the noise somehow drowns out my brain yelling at me that everything I type is bad. Something about being uncomfortable and slightly annoyed makes me stop overthinking and just get words down. A timer helps too, because a blank page with no deadline is basically a trap I set for myself. The stuff I write there is messy but it actually has a pulse, unlike the polished nothing I produce at a clean desk. So yeah, the parking lot at 6am makes total sense to me, weird spots win.
