Just realized I was overplanning every story before writing a single word
Spent six months outlining a fantasy novel with 40 pages of notes, then a friend dared me to write a 500-word flash piece in 30 minutes and it came out better than anything from my outline. Has anyone else hit this wall where planning becomes procrastination?

40 pages of notes" Did you actually enjoy making that outline?

Oh man, 40 pages? That sounds more like a chore than a hobby to me. I get wanting to be prepared, but writing down that much seems like you're trying to write a book instead of just studying. Your mileage may vary of course, but I'd rather spend that time actually doing practice problems or watching a video. Seems like overkill for most things unless you're planning to teach a class on it. Take this with a grain of salt though, I'm not one for long note taking.
