Had a writing prompt that totally flopped and I'm still annoyed about it

I spent like 3 hours last Friday crafting a prompt about a detective who solves crimes using only smells and it got 2 responses, both telling me it was 'too weird.' How do you guys judge if a prompt is even worth posting or if you're just wasting your time?

Tried a noir mystery with a ghost detective and got crickets.

Ghost detective is a tough sell... too gimmicky for most readers.

Used to be a pretty big advocate for ghost detective stuff back in the day... guess I was wrong about that one.
