Creative writing class in Austin had us use AI prompts and I walked out
I sat in on a workshop at a bookstore in Austin where the instructor spent 45 minutes showing us how to feed prompts into ChatGPT to generate story ideas. It felt more like a tutorial on using a search engine than a class about crafting narratives. How is typing commands to a robot supposed to teach someone the art of building tension or developing a character?

Haha the microwave comparison is spot on. I mean, that's exactly what that Austin workshop sounds like. I had a similar thing happen at a local library class on storytelling. The guy just pulled up ChatGPT and started typing "give me a fantasy plot" and we all just sat there watching. It was like he was showing us how to use a vending machine, not how to cook a meal. The whole point of writing is the messy stuff, the drafts that go nowhere, the characters that keep you up at night. Typing a prompt into a box doesn't teach you any of that. It just gives you a bland, average result that looks okay but has no real heat to it.
