TIL that ketchup on mac and cheese is actually a regional thing from the Midwest
I always thought I was just weird for loving ketchup on my mac and cheese. My boyfriend acts like I'm committing a crime every time I do it. So I looked it up on some food history site and found out it's actually a legit comfort food combo in places like Ohio and Indiana. Apparently it started during the Depression when people used ketchup to stretch out cheap meals. Now I feel way less alone in this. Anyone else's family do this or did I just grow up in a weird household?

Grew up in Ohio and my grandma ALWAYS put ketchup on our mac and cheese, it's the BEST way.

My cousin from Dayton swears by the same thing. It's funny how certain food combos get passed down like that. I've noticed this whole pattern where people either love mixing sweet and savory or they think it's a sin. Ketchup on mac and cheese, ranch on pizza, hot sauce on eggs - everyone has their one weird thing they grew up with that feels totally normal to them but makes outsiders cringe.
