My grandma's tuna casserole with crushed potato chips on top... my roommates think I'm crazy
I whipped up my favorite childhood comfort food last week in our shared kitchen, and my roommates gagged when they saw the soggy chips and canned tuna mixing together. They said it looked like something a cat would eat, but honestly it reminds me of Sunday dinners at my grandma's place in Detroit. Am I the only one who actually likes this soft, salty mess over fancy mac and cheese?

Ha, my dad used to put crushed BBQ chips on his tuna casserole. Weird but good.

That "weird but good" is exactly how I'd describe it. I read somewhere that the whole "chips on casserole" thing is actually a Midwest classic, people swear by crunching up anything from Doritos to plain potato chips on top for texture. Never tried BBQ ones myself but now I'm curious. Hey @alicesingh, your dad might have been onto something because I heard it adds a little smoky kick that cuts through the tuna. Might have to grab a bag next time I'm at the store and give it a shot.

Wait, hold on... @alicesingh said BBQ chips on tuna casserole? Like actual barbecue flavored chips crunched up on top? I mean, I've had the standard plain potato chip version a million times growing up in Michigan, but that sounds kind of wild. The tangy smoky flavor mixing with the creamy tuna and noodles... I don't know if I'm brave enough to try that myself. Maybe it's just me but that feels like it would clash with the canned tuna taste. Then again, my grandma always said there's no wrong way to make a casserole, so I guess if it works for your dad, it works. I'm kind of shocked but also a tiny bit curious now.
