My cold pizza with apple sauce habit finally got called out at work

I've been eating cold leftover pizza dipped in cold apple sauce for about 15 years now. It started when I was a teenager and we ran out of ranch dressing one night, so I grabbed the apple sauce cup from my lunch bag on a whim. Last week at the nurses station, a new grad caught me doing it during my 3am break and she looked genuinely horrified. She asked if I had lost a bet or something. I tried to explain that the sweet cold apple sauce cuts through the greasy cheese and pepperoni in a way that just works. Three other nurses came over to see what she was staring at, and now I'm the weird apple sauce pizza lady of the night shift. Has anyone else got a combo that people act like is a crime scene?

Oh man, "the weird apple sauce pizza lady of the night shift" - that's a title I'd wear like a badge of honor, honestly. Your new grad sounds like she needs to loosen up a bit (maybe offer her a bite sometime?). I've got my own crime scene combo: cold leftover Chinese food takeout with a glob of peanut butter mixed into the fried rice. People act like I'm committing a felony against food when I bust that out at lunch. But hey, if greasy cheese and sweet apple sauce works for you after fifteen years, that's not a phase, that's a legacy. I figure weird food combos are like secret handshakes for the people who get it.

Fifty years of eating pizza, and I have to say you've invented something I never would have thought of in a million years. My own weird habit is dipping french fries in chocolate pudding, which got me plenty of sideways looks at the school cafeteria table back in the day. I figure if it tastes good to you and it's not hurting anybody, let the night shift chuckle all they want.
