Finally got my canned sardine and pickle pizza right after 6 tries
I've been making this weird combo for years and my roommate always gagged whenever I ate it, but last night I added a layer of cream cheese under the sardines and the tangy pickles balanced the fishiness perfectly. It took me about 3 months of experimenting with different crusts and toppings to get that creamy, salty, sour bite just right. Anyone else got a weird pizza topping that nobody in your house will touch?

The cream cheese under it just makes it worse, like you're trying to hide the bad taste with more bad taste. Pickles on pizza is already a red flag, but sardines plus pickles plus cream cheese? That's three weird things that don't belong together. What's next, putting chocolate sauce on a hot dog?

@troyreed I mean, you're not wrong that it sounds like a mess, but the trick is to really drain the sardines and pat them dry before they go on, otherwise you get exactly that fishy burp situation. I've found that using cornichons instead of big pickle slices keeps the flavor punchy without making the whole thing soggy. Give it another shot with that prep change and see if it changes your mind even a little.
