Cold baked beans straight from the can at 3am

Last week after my night shift I got home and couldn't even heat anything up, so I just cracked open a can of Bush's baked beans and ate them cold standing in the kitchen. My roommate walked in and said it looked like I was eating punishment food, but honestly the sweet and thick syrup hits different when you're exhausted. Anyone else got a cold canned food they swear by when you just can't deal with cooking?

Have you tried eating them with a spoon and just digging in... like a cave person? Cold beans hit different when you're too tired to care about proper meals. The thick syrup coats your tongue and it's weirdly comforting. I get what you mean about it being punishment food for some people but when you're running on empty it's basically survival mode. This is one of those things that makes sense in the moment and nobody else gets it.

Cold Vienna sausages straight from the tin. The brine is salty and weirdly satisfying when you're half asleep. Cold baked beans are alright too, but the syrup gets too thick for me. Maybe try them with some crackers next time if you want to class it up a bit.

Oh my goodness, I never thought about cold Vienna sausages. My husband used to eat those straight from the can during his late night fishing trips and I always thought he was crazy. But the crackers idea is clever, Claire. I tried cold baked beans once during a power outage and the syrup was just too much for me. I ended up draining most of it off and just eating the beans plain, which felt a bit wasteful but it worked.
