Why does nobody talk about bounce rates for blog pages?
Read a study last week from Backlinko that said the average bounce rate for a blog post is over 70%. That made me rethink my whole content strategy. Now I'm wondering if shorter posts actually keep people reading longer or if I should add more internal links. Has anyone else looked into this stat?

70% bounce rate feels like one of those stats people nod at and then immediately forget while composing another 3,000 word post about why their niche is special. Short posts won't help because then people finish reading in 12 seconds and still leave. Internal links just give them a slightly longer route to the same cat video. Might as well add a popup that says "please sit still for at least 90 seconds" and see if that works better.

Wait, people are just now realizing that most blog visitors bounce? That's like being shocked that 90% of people at a mall food court walk past your kiosk selling scented erasers. "Over 70% bounce rate on blogs" - yeah, and water is wet. The real kicker is that people will land on your post, read exactly two sentences, decide they'd rather check what their ex posted on Instagram, and leave forever. Shorter posts won't save you either, because then they'll just bounce faster. Might as well add those internal links, at least when they bounce they'll hit another one of your pages before they disappear into the void of cat videos.
