One client's 'just make it viral' broke my whole strategy meeting last Tuesday
I was in a Zoom call with a local bakery owner in Austin, she kept pointing at a competitor's TikTok with 2 million views and said 'our content should look like that.' I tried to explain that their own customer base was mostly 45 plus and shopped in store, not through short clips. She didn't care about the data, she just wanted the flashy numbers. Has anyone else had a client ignore their actual audience just to chase a trend?

Her TikTok was probably trending because of some random audio or a cute cat, not because it was good marketing. Clients see 2M views and think that equals sales, but half those views probably came from bots or people who'll never step foot in Austin. I'd rather have 200 real customers walk through the door than a million strangers who forget my name in 3 seconds.
