My blog traffic dropped 40% after I switched from 3 posts a week to 1 high-effort post a month, and now I'm wondering if consistency actually matters more than depth.

For 2 years I was cranking out quick lists and tutorials every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and my organic traffic was climbing steady, but then I spent a whole month perfecting one 5,000 word guide and my analytics tanked so now I'm asking does Google actually reward the long stuff over regular updates or have I been working backwards this whole time, what's your experience been with frequency vs quality?

Took me way too long to learn this lesson myself honestly. I did the exact same thing last year where I poured weeks into this one massive pillar post and watched my traffic drop off a cliff (like 35% down). What I figured out is Google really does seem to love that steady drip of content more than the occasional home run, at least for building initial momentum. I think the algorithm sees frequent updates as a sign your site is alive and worth crawling regularly, you know? My traffic only bounced back when I went back to a weekly schedule but with slightly deeper posts than my old listicles, like a happy medium between the two extremes. It's frustrating because I wanted to believe one great article could do the work of ten okay ones but the data just doesn't back it up for most niches.

That "happy medium" you mentioned @paigep20 is exactly what my buddy found out the hard way. He spent two months on this monster 10,000 word guide about hiking gear, thought it was his ticket to big traffic. Nothing happened for weeks. His buddy who just posts decent 1500 word reviews every Tuesday actually started ranking. My friend finally gave up on the masterpiece stuff and just started writing shorter but focused posts once a week. Took about three months but his organic traffic finally climbed back up past where it was before. The algorithm really does seem to punish you for going silent even if you're writing quality stuff.
