We had 140 old posts with broken links and thin sections, so I spent April and May fixing titles, adding FAQs, and swapping dead screenshots instead of publishing anything new. My gut says this only worked because our archive was a mess, not because new content doesn't matter. Anyone here actually run this test side by side, or did you just take the win and move on?
Did you have a bunch of old posts that were just plain outdated though? I did the same thing last year, went back and fixed maybe 80 posts with stale info and bad keywords, and my traffic jumped about 18% without writing anything new. My guess is it works great when your archive is a wreck, but once you clean it up you still need fresh stuff to keep growing.
