My April calendar for the gardening niche crashed hard when a frost killed half the topics a week before publishing, so I switched to posting same-day reactions and my open rate doubled in Portland.

Honestly sounds like you got lucky with timing more than anything, same-day posts only work when you happen to catch a trend. Frost killing your calendar is a bummer, but doubling open rate once doesn't mean ditching planning is the move.
