Back when I started, one blogger's comment changed my whole approach

I was at a local coffee shop in Portland about 6 years ago and this older blogger sat down next to me and said "you're writing for Google, not for people." She pointed out my headlines were all keyword stuffed and my paragraphs read like robot instructions. Has anyone else had a random stranger call them out and actually shift how they think about content?

The_kevin reminds me of my uncle who still calls websites "the internet." Once told me SEO was overrated while using AOL.

Hate to break it to you, but your uncle probably had a point back then. SEO was less about tricks and more about having a decent site when AOL was still a thing. Now it's a circus of algorithms and paid ads, so maybe he was onto something.

That random stranger sounded like she took herself pretty seriously. A comment from a blogger at a coffee shop probably doesn't need to shift your whole world view. Writing for people is fine and all, but Google is still the one sending traffic to your site. Maybe just split the difference and move on.
