A client's offhand comment about their grandma changed how I plan content
I was mapping out a quarterly plan for a local bakery's blog and the owner said, "My grandma reads every post, she prints them for her recipe binder." That was in their tiny office above the shop in Boise. I realized I'd been writing for other marketers, not for real people like her. Now I picture one specific person using the content before I write anything. How do you keep a real audience in mind when you're deep in the strategy docs?

Totally! I picture my neighbor reading my stuff.

Actually find it helps to picture a stranger reading it, not someone I know. If I think about my neighbor, I start editing myself too much. A stranger feels more honest, like I'm just putting the idea out there without worrying what they'll think of me personally. It keeps the writing from getting too careful or safe. That distance lets me say what I actually mean.
