Update: My grocery bill hit under $200 for a family of four this month
I switched to only buying store brands and planned every meal before going to the store... I was just trying to cut back a little, but when I added it up, the total was $187. That's the first time it's been that low since we had kids. It felt like a huge win for our budget. Has anyone else found a trick that made a big drop like that?

We hit that same wall last year, our bill was always around $300. Swapping to store brand pasta and canned beans was the first step, then I stopped buying any snacks that weren't on the list. It felt impossible at first, but seeing the total drop each week kept me going. That feeling when you finally get under $200 is just pure relief.

That's awesome, seriously. The snack thing is real. I had to stop buying those single serve chip bags, they just vanish. Did you have to cut out any specific items that hurt the most? For me it was the fancy coffee creamer, the store brand just isn't the same.

You know, I used to think store brand stuff was just worse, no question. But that feeling when you finally get under $200, like Oscar said, it changed my whole view. I had to give up my favorite yogurt, the one with the fruit on the bottom, and it felt like a punishment. After a few weeks of seeing the savings, though, I realized my wallet felt better than my taste buds missed that yogurt. It's a trade-off that starts to make sense.
