The 50 cents that changed my mind about coupons

My neighbor Sally showed me her grocery receipt last week. She saved $38 on a $120 bill at Kroger just by stacking digital coupons and store loyalty. I always thought coupons were a waste of time, but she spends 10 minutes a week on it. Has anyone else had a hard mental block about couponing?

Wait, are you sure she saved $38 on a $120 bill? I thought digital coupons had better savings but some of those loyalty deals are pretty basic discounts.

Did you try scanning your store loyalty card before the digital coupons?

@abbyg14 made a good point about the loyalty card stacking. But @xena_fox39 is right too, some of those "deals" are just bringing it down to what you'd pay at Aldi anyway lol. The real question for you is how much do you trust Sally's math? Did she actually compare the sale prices to regular shelf prices, or did she just look at the total saved on the receipt? I learned that coupon savings are often inflated because they compare to the full retail price, not what you'd normally pay with the store discount.
