My husband fell for that Adobe Creative Cloud 3 year thing back in 2021. He thought he was saving money but then we moved and he barely used it after the first six months. That cancellation process was a nightmare. They made him talk to three different people on the phone and each one tried to sell him a different plan before they'd let him go. We wasted almost two hours on that call and he still ended up paying a cancellation fee that ate up any "savings" from the whole thing. I get it, some folks make it work with reminders, but not all of us have the spare time or energy to fight with customer service over every little thing.

Is it really that big of a deal though? I mean you just cancel before the renewal date. Set a reminder on your phone. Takes 30 seconds. Most services send you like 5 emails before they charge you anyway. Unless you're the type who ignores everything.

Tbh, you're kinda skipping over the whole point. Not everyone has a perfect memory or the time to babysit a subscription calendar. I've got three streaming services, a gym membership, and a meal kit thing, and none of them send reminders that are easy to spot. They bury them in spam folders or make the cancellation process take 15 minutes of clicking through menus and entering passwords. Plus, some companies like Amazon or Adobe actually make you go through a phone call or a live chat to cancel, not just a button. Not all of us have the luxury of remembering every single due date or dealing with that nonsense just to avoid being charged for another month of something we forgot existed.
