Switched to a cash envelope system for groceries and it cut our spending by $200 a month
We were always going over our $600 grocery budget in Atlanta, mostly from extra trips and impulse buys. I started pulling out $600 in cash at the start of the month and putting it in an envelope labeled 'Food'. Once the cash is gone, we're done until the next month. It feels different handing over real money and makes you think twice. Has anyone else tried this method for a specific category that was out of control?

Wait, $600 for groceries in Atlanta? That's amazing even before you saved!

Check the unit price on everything, @karen_perry38. Buying bigger packages of stuff you use a lot can cut that total way down over time.

Right?! I was shocked too, @karen_perry38. I just moved here and was braced for way worse. Getting that cart full for under $600 felt like a win all by itself. Finding those extra savings on top of it was the best feeling. Makes me want to really hunt for deals every time now.
