Rant: My cheap game night idea beat the pricey bar plan
My friends picked a fancy cocktail spot for a reunion, and I knew my budget would hate it. I bluntly said I couldn't afford it and suggested a board game night at my apartment. Everyone brought a drink or snack to share, and we spent maybe ten bucks each. It was way more fun than dealing with loud crowds and overpriced drinks.

We played Codenames last month for under five bucks a person and laughed way harder than any bar trip. Honestly, telling the group the truth about your budget is the best move, it takes the pressure off everyone. Those cozy game nights always end up being the memories people talk about later. You get to actually hear each other and relax without watching your wallet all night.

We got Dixit for like twenty bucks total, and after three years we still pull it out. The cheap nights force you to be creative, not just open your wallet. You end up with inside jokes that last way longer than a bar tab. That real talk about money early on lets the fun actually happen.

Caught this podcast episode where they talked about game nights saving friendships, no joke. They said when you're not spending cash, you focus on the people and the silly moments. Like that time we tried to explain movie plots using only sock puppets, cost nothing but had us crying laughing. Those nights stick with you because the pressure's off. Being upfront about money lets everyone chill and actually enjoy the time. It's weird how the cheapest plans often turn into the best stories.
