Paid $45 for a budgeting app trial and forgot to cancel before renewal

Signed up for that fancy envelope app last month thinking the free trial would remind me when it ended, but nope, they charged me $45 for the full year upfront. I checked my bank statement this morning and saw the charge, then went into the app settings and there was literally no cancel button, had to email support. Anyone else get burned by a subscription trial auto-renewing and have a trick to keep these charges from slipping through?
