My washing machine belt snapped mid-cycle and dumped soapy water all over the basement floor at 11pm last night.
I spent 45 minutes mopping up the mess with old towels while my wife held a flashlight, and then I found out the replacement belt costs only $12 at the hardware store down the street, so I'm calling it a win for my wallet and my patience, has anyone else had a random appliance fail on them at the worst possible time?

$12 for a belt is a steal (especially compared to a service call fee), but did you have to take the whole machine apart to get to the old belt? I helped a friend replace one on a front-loader last year and we ended up with like 17 screws and a pile of panels on the floor before we even saw the belt.

Seventeen screws sounds about right... I swear they design these things so you give up and just buy a new one. My kitchen floor looked like a hardware store exploded by the time I was done.

My uncle actually wrapped duct tape around his old belt as a temporary fix and it lasted three years.
