My brother told me to always round up in my budget and it actually works
He said to add 10% to every bill estimate, and now I never get surprised by a $45 electric jump in July. Has anyone else tried padding like this and found it helps?

Started doing this exact thing last year. Added 10% to my gas and electric numbers. When July hit with that heat wave my bill was still under my padded estimate. Felt like a genius. Also started rounding my groceries up by 20 bucks. Now I actually have a little leftover instead of scrambling.

Honestly, Anthony, is it really that serious? I get buffering bills is smart, but adding a whole 10% to everything feels like you're just guessing and hoping you're not losing money elsewhere. Tbh, I just check my utility site once a month and pay the actual number, and I've never lost sleep over a hot July bill. Ngl, rounding up groceries by 20 bucks sounds less like a hack and more like you're just giving yourself a reason to spend more on snacks.
