I was dead wrong about using cash stuffing for groceries

For like two years I thought the whole cash envelope thing was just for extreme couponers in the 80s. Got tired of blowing my food budget every month in Nashville so I gave it a shot with $60 a week for just me. Grabbed actual cash from the bank and put it in an envelope marked 'food' and honestly it worked better than any app I've used. I saved about $45 in September alone just because I couldn't physically swipe a card for that extra bag of chips. Has anyone else had a budgeting trick they mocked and then ended up loving?

Yep that physical barrier thing is real right? I do the same with my gym snack budget and it's wild how much less junk I eat when I have to watch the actual cash leave my hand.

Cash is so old school though. My credit card points stack up way faster when I use plastic for everything, even snacks. I probably eat MORE junk now because I'm chasing those rewards, lol. And I can always just pay the card off at the end of the month so it's not like I'm really bleeding money.

My buddy Dave maxed out three cards chasing United miles and now he's eating ramen every night to pay the minimums. Those points don't hit the same when you're stuck with 18% APR on a bag of chips you bought six months ago.
