Can we talk about that 'budget' meal prep service I fell for

I signed up for FreshPlate Express near my office in Denver thinking it'd save me $80 a month on groceries, but their portions were tiny and I ended up buying extra food to not feel hungry. After three weeks I checked my bank and realized I'd spent $220 more than usual because of the subscription plus the extra runs to Safeway. Has anyone else gotten tricked by a meal kit that seemed like a win but actually wrecked your budget?

Got burnt bad by one of those "healthy snack box" subscriptions last year. They made it sound like you'd get all these premium protein bars and nuts for dirt cheap, but when it showed up it was literally four sad little bags of trail mix and two granola bars that tasted like cardboard. I kept it going for two months because I kept telling myself "next month will be better" and by the time I cancelled I had spent like $150 on stuff I could have bought at Walmart for $40. The REAL kicker was that I had to call their customer service THREE times to actually cancel because they kept trying to sell me on a "discounted" upgrade. Total CLOWN SHOW.

My buddy signed up for a cheese of the month club and got a block so moldy it was basically penicillin starter kit.
