Used to book hostels based on cheapest price, now I pay a bit more for ones with free breakfast

Back in my early 20s I'd grab any $15 dorm bed and just eat gas station granola bars for breakfast. After 3 days of that in Prague I felt like garbage, so now I'll spend up to $25 if they throw in toast and coffee. Anyone else find a cheap breakfast is worth the extra cash for morning energy?

Is eating toast and coffee really that big of a game changer though? I mean you can grab a bagel for like a dollar from a corner shop and walk to the next hostel.

But have you thought about how much time you waste hunting down an open corner shop in a random city at 6am? Hostel toast is like built in breakfast locker room talk you don't gotta think about. Plus cheap bread + butter from a grocery store costs like 50 cents for three days worth compared to a single bagel.
