Update: I bought a local bus pass in Lisbon for 30 euros

I almost skipped it because I thought walking would be fine... but the hills there are no joke. On day two, my feet were killing me and I bought the 7-day pass. It got me on all the trams and buses, even out to Belem. That pass saved me so much time and pain. Has anyone found a similar transit deal that felt like a game changer?

Totally feel you on those Lisbon hills.

The climb up to the Castelo de Sao Jorge almost broke me last summer. My calves were on fire for three days straight after that. It's a beautiful kind of pain, though.

dylan_bell mentioned those Lisbon hills and I think that's the part people forget when they brag about walking everywhere. The trams there aren't just for tourists, they're basically a necessity. I took the 28 tram up to the Graça neighborhood and it was packed with locals doing their grocery runs. That pass paid for itself in two days just from avoiding the hill climb with heavy bags.
