The $8 hostel in Guatemala that made me question every hotel I've ever booked

Back in 2016 I was passing through Antigua and my budget was basically nothing. I found this place online for $8 a night, figured it would be a mattress on a floor with bugs. Turned out it had a rooftop kitchen, free coffee all day, and the owner walked us to the market to show us where locals ate. Stayed 5 nights instead of 2. I've spent $150 a night on hotels that felt less welcoming. Still don't trust the super cheap listings, but that one changed how I read reviews. Anyone else had a budget place that beat the pricey option?
