Nearly missed my flight in Bangkok last week

I spent 45 minutes arguing with a tuk-tuk driver over 50 baht while my boarding time was ticking down. Realized later the airport rail link was faster and cheaper anyway. What's your go-to move when local transport tries to overcharge you?

That's honestly the most backwards thing I've ever heard... you're willing to miss your whole trip over pocket change? Fifty baht is like a dollar fifty. That tuk-tuk driver was just trying to make a living, and you stood there haggling like it was life or death. Next time just pay the extra few bucks and save yourself the headache... your time is worth way more than that.

Friend of mine once spent 20 minutes arguing with a street vendor in Bangkok over 30 baht. Missed his train, had to wait three hours for the next one. He always says that was the most expensive 30 baht he ever saved.

Totally, that "most expensive 30 baht he ever saved" line is perfect, I did the same thing in Marrakech over a 50 dirham rug and missed my bus.
