My sister swore the $11 airport bus in Reykjavik would beat the $45 flybus and she was dead wrong
My sister went to Iceland two years ago and would not shut up about this cheap city bus hack. She said skip the tourist Flybus at the airport, walk out to the regular stop, and take the number 55 for like $11. So when I landed in Reykjavik last March at 6am with a heavy pack, I did exactly what she said. I stood at that stop in the freezing wind for 40 minutes, watched two buses roll past without stopping, and finally asked a local guy who laughed and told me that route barely runs on weekends in winter. I ended up paying $45 for the Flybus anyway, plus I was so late that my hostel front desk had closed and I had to call some emergency number to get my key at 2am. My sister still says I did it wrong. Has anyone actually made that city bus trick work on a winter arrival, or is it just a summer thing?
